Catherine M., Montessori Head of School
Catherine spent 2 years in Italy training at the AMI (Association Montessori International) International Center for Montessori Studies in Bergamo, for which she holds an AMI Elementary Teaching Certificate. She earned a Maryland State Teacher Certification in Elementary and Special Education.
Catherine also holds Special Education training certificates in Orton-Gillingham tutoring, the Dubard Association Method, Montessori Applied To Children At Risk, Autism-A Montessori Approach, and Laubach ESL Tutoring. Catherine is an international advocate for inclusive Montessori education. She promotes the development of Montessori-based Special Education initiatives internationally.
Through organizing training courses, giving presentations and publishing articles, she raises awareness about the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the Montessori Educational approach. Catherine is a strong supporter of Arts education has both Primary and Elementary Montessori Music Training, Orff Schulwerk Elementary Music Training, and Musikgarten Early Childhood Music Training.
Ms. Liang-Yu has been a Montessori teacher at Frederick County Day since 1989. She graduated from a teacher’s college in Taiwan and taught in public elementary schools in Taipei, Taiwan for 5 years. She has a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Hood College, has a Maryland Educator certificate for Pre-K-3rd grade and is a MSDE certified trainer for providers in Maryland.
Ms. Liang-Yu received Montessori training from Montgomery Montessori Institute. She is a certified AMS Montessori teacher and has been working in Montessori classrooms for 18 years. She is fluent in English and Chinese, has taught Chinese at Frederick Community College, and has been teaching Chinese language and culture in various settings.
Her philosophy is about following the child. Through observation and careful planning, she provides for each child’s individual needs. She says, “ My favorite thing about teaching children is to see the progress of a child’s learning. When a child says, ‘I did it by myself!’ it is the most joyful moment to see and hear.”
Ms. Liang-Yu lives in Frederick with her husband and two teenage daughters, both are alumni of Frederick Country Day. She enjoys spending time with her family, sight-seeing, listening to music and practicing Chinese calligraphy.
Ms. Maria graduated from the Normal Institute for Girls in Guatemala City, Guatemala as a teacher of Pre-Primary Education. She attended the West Virginia STARS State Training for professional development for early care and education and worked from 2012-2015 at Don Boscoe Montessori in West Virginia in the Primary classroom and as a Montessori guide with toddlers.
Ms. Maria earned an AMI Primary Montessori Degree from Greenville Montessori Institute in South Carolina. Ms. Maria is from Guatemala and now lives in Martinsburg, WV with her husband and two children. She enjoys taking her children to soccer practice, singing with them and cooking typical foods from Guatemala.
Ms. Rebecca, Pre-primary Lead Teacher
Rebecca W. has worked for Frederick Country Day Montessori for 3 years. Rebecca earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Hood College, after earning her Associate Degree in Teaching from Frederick Community College.
She is a MSDE certified Early Childhood Education Teacher, and holds a Montessori diploma from the North American Montessori Teacher Program. Rebecca “Becky” is passionate about working with diverse cultures, and celebrates the uniqueness of all her students.
Ms. Eunhee, Art Teacher
Eunhee has a very passionate about sharing the joy of art with her young students. She previously taught art at a private school in Ellicott City. She has one daughter in college.
Ms. Meghan graduated from West Virginia University in the Spring of 2016, with a Bachelors in Child Development and Family studies. She is currently attending Mount St Mary’s University to receive her Masters in Elementary Education.
Ms. Meaghan has always loved working with children; she has coached and mentored children in gymnastics and has completed many different internships throughout her undergraduate career. In addition to spending time on her school work, she enjoys playing with her dog, traveling, and visiting her family.
